WEX Summer Institute at Simmons College
Differentiated Writing Instruction: Summer ELA Institute for Educators
August 5th-7th, 2008
8:30am-4:30pm
Learn to use the nationally recognized Writers’ Express Method and return to the classroom prepared to transform your students' writing.
Cost:
$485.00 for the institute. Participants receive two graduate credits from Simmons College (GEDUC 447: Differentiated Writing Instruction: Summer Educators’ Institute).
General Information
Participants will learn to:
- Develop an instructional strategy that steadily builds clear-cut skills.
- Provide targeted feedback that keeps students on course to mastery.
- Track student progress, easily and often.
- Adjust instruction in response to how well each student is learning— to give each child the help he needs, when he needs it.
Highly practical in its approach, the institute teaches teachers and administrators how to connect deeply with their students, and to use this connection to develop their students' technical and expressive skills. Class time will be devoted to analyzing student work, developing a differentiated diagnosis, and determining strategies for responding to writers at various levels. Special attention is paid to addressing the needs of struggling students. Participants should expect to leave the course with tools they can immediately put to use in their own classrooms.
