WEX Summer Institute at Simmons College
Differentiated Writing Instruction: Summer ELA Institute for Educators
July 20 – July 22, 2010, 8:30am-4:30pm
Learn to use the Writers’ Express Method to drive your students’ steady progress in writing and reading.
Participants in our Differentiated Writing Instruction: Summer Institute for Educators will learn to:
- Develop an instructional strategy that helps students develop the right skills in the right order
- Provide targeted, authentic feedback to frequent writing practice that keeps students on the path to becoming powerful writers
- Meet students where they are by tracking student progress - easily and often- and adjusting instruction to individual needs
Highly practical in its approach, the Summer Institute shows teachers and administrators how to forge a deep connection with their students, and how to use this connection to develop students’ technical and expressive skills. Class time is devoted to analyzing student work, developing a differentiated diagnosis, and determining strategies for responding to writers at various levels. There will be a special focus on addressing the needs of struggling students. Participants should expect to leave the institute with tools they can put to use immediately in their own classrooms.
